Video has become a powerful marketing tool, with statistics time and again showing it's more likely to land you on the front page of Google than plain text. Video also has the added bonus of working well with social media, which increases the chance of virality when done right. For business, it allows you to show how your products work, humanises your business, educates people about your industry and it's relatively inexpensive to make.
Some tips for videos:
- Make sure to use a title that will attract people to click on it and will help with search engine optimisation.
- Provide valuable content, but keep it short. No more than 3-4 minutes is a good rule.
- As well as providing your website, Twitter or Facebook URL in the description on platforms like YouTube , make sure to include your URL in the video itself when you edit it. This means if it's posted in a blog post or on social media, people know where to go to find more about you.
- Make sure to upload it to YouTube or Vimeo, use it on your Facebook welcome tab, promote it on your Facebook wall, share it on Twitter and LinkedIn, add it to a Pinterest board and insert into into a blog post on your website. I've also seen some insert welcome videos into the sidebar of their website, which again helps give a face to the business.
We'll provide content ideas for videos tomorrow.
